Expertise
Excellent Track Record
When you travel with G.A.P Adventures, you are travelling with the world leader in adventure travel. Since our inception in 1990, GAP have sent hundreds of thousands of travellers on adventures around the world. Not only have our travellers loved these trips, but the industry has also rewarded our ingenuity many times over. GAP have landed in National Geographic's Top 25 Adventures, five years in a row. They made Condé Nast Traveller's Green List for their leadership in socially and environmentally responsible business practices and have been named as one of Canada's 50 best-managed companies. Although the awards are great, the best reward is a happy traveller.
Unique Style of Travel
Authentic Experiences
You know the saying "when in Rome, do as the Romans do", well at G.A.P Adventures, they have taken that sentiment one step further. They get you as close as possible to the action.GAP use local transportation, stay at locally owned guesthouses and eat where the locals eat. GAP break down the culture barriers and help you experience and understand the world.
Group Size
GAP keep group sizes low so you have the freedom to move around and get involved with your surroundings. This intimate size ensures that your group won't crowd your experience. You can expect anywhere from 12-16 travellers on a trip but the average is 10 with the exception of our ship-based and Overland truck trips.
Value for Money
GAP’s unique style of off the beaten track, face-to-face travel is the very thing that helps to keep the prices low. Your hard earned money goes towards authentic cultural experiences and wildlife encounters, instead of on lavish hotels and expensive western-style meals.
Choice
Choose your Destination
Whether it's getting you onshore with thousands of King Penguins on a voyage to Antarctica or helping you to follow in the steps of the Incas to Machu Picchu. If you've always wanted to experience wildlife up close in the Galapagos or dance the Tango in Buenos Aires , we can take you there.
Choose your Style
We recognize that everyone has different travel preferences and budgets, so we have 10 styles of travel for anyone looking to add a little adventure to their holidays. While each style is unique, they are all designed to provide an authentic experience you'll never forget. Whether you're looking for just the essentials with Roam or the full adventure with an upgraded room at the end of the day with our Comfort trips, we have a style to fit your needs.
Choose your Departure
We respect that you have a busy schedule. With G.A.P Adventures, you can select from the broadest range of departure dates in the industry. This means that on almost any given date, you can find a trip that best fits into your schedule.
Choose your Activity
On every trip page, we show you the "included highlights" of your trip. While we include the major highlights of a destination, you are free to choose your optional activities. This gives you the ultimate freedom and flexibility to choose what you want to do on a daily basis.
Transportation
Not just a way to get from A to B...
At G.A.P Adventures, we believe in the old adage that "getting there is half the fun". Varied and unique transportation is a highlight of many of our small group adventures, and we view transportation as part of the experience. Find yourself riding the roof of the train in Ecuador, plying the icy waters of the Polar Regions by expedition ship, biking and hiking your way through Patagonia, , navigating the Amazon by dugout canoe, or riding the chicken bus with the locals through Guatemala.
Accommodation
Not just a place to lay your head...
Our accommodation is designed to be an integral part of the experience and capture the essence of the local area, not just a place to lay your head at night. We offer a variety of different adventure styles, and therefore a diverse range of accommodation. It all depends on the trip you choose. Spend the night, at a small family hotel, camping at high altitude, at a home-stay in the Amazon, sailing between islands. Accommodation is usually based on twin-share and we do not charge single supplements. Single travellers will be paired with a room mate of the same sex.
Food
A big part of the travelling experience...
Sampling the local cuisine is a big part of the travelling experience. We realize that everyone is different, and when it comes to food there are varying degrees of adventure! Our trips only include some meals, as we want you to explore the local cuisine and try something new. When in remote regions such as during an expedition cruise, aboard one of our yachts, trekking in remote regions, or on safari in the Amazon we include most meals. The food we include is hearty and fresh and most people are amazed at what our cooks and chefs can do on board or at camp.
Our Trip Leaders
Most G.A.P Adventures group trips are accompanied by one of our group leaders, a G.A.P Adventures representative, or an expedition team. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. They will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. You can expect our leader to have a broad general knowledge of the countries visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects. We also use local guides where we think more specific knowledge will add to the enjoyment of the places we are visiting- we think it's the best of both worlds. For our shipboard expeditions and voyages we have a highly experienced shipboard staff and crew, including Level III naturalist guides in the Galapagos, and an experienced expedition team aboard the M/S Explorer. On Overland truck trips you will be accompanied by a guide and a driver/cook, who offer a wealth of knowledge on the regions you will be visiting.
