17 Nights / 18 Days

Day 1: Lima

Fly to Lima.  On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Lima (B)

On day two, we tour the "City of the Kings".  Starting at the Huaca Pucllana Archeological Center that operated between the 5th and 8th centuries, you'll then proceed to the historical centre to see the Plaza Mayor, surrounded by the Government Palace, the City Hall, The Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace.  Next you're off to the San Francisco Monastery, a masterpiece of Colonial architecture.  We drive through the residential districts of Miraflores and San Isidro where you will enjoy a magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean. 

The afternoon is at your leisure.

 Day 3: Lima - Cuzco (B)

We transfer from the hotel to the airportUpon arriving in Cuzco you will be transferred to your hotel and the remainder of the morning is at leisure.

In the afternoon we explore the magical capital of the Incas on a tour including a visit to Plaza Regocijo, Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral and the Santo Domingo Convent Monastery.  The Santo Domingo Monastery was built over the Koricancha Temple, one of the most important temples devoted to worship of the sun.  According to the chronicles, it was covered in gold sheet and filled with golden representations of nature. Then walk around the old town with its very narrow streets. 

After seeing the most interesting sites of the city, you will drive to the countryside outside Cusco to visit some of the remarkable Inca ruins in the area: the cult centre of Sacsayhuaman, the Temple and Amphitheatre of Kenko, the Inca Baths of Tambomachay and the Red Fortress of Puca Pucara.

Extend your itinerary for a 2 night visit to one of our jungle lodges near Puerto Maldonado in the Peruvian Amazon.  Fly from Lima to Puerto Maldonado for a 2 nights stay, then fly to Cuzco.  Separate itinerary available on request.  Additional cost USD590 per person 3 star; USD$680 - 4 star; USD$835 - 5 star.

Day 4: Cuzco - Sacred Valley (B/L)

We'll take a trip to the Urubamba valley, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to Pisac for an opportunity to bargain with vendors at its local handicrafts market.  Then we're on to visit the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo.  The site was built just as the Spaniards arrived and evidence of how it was constructed is still visible.  After seeing the magnificent historical remnants of the spot, we'll stroll through the quaint streets of the present town.  We'll enjoy lunch at a nice hostelry in the countryside and continue on to the hotel.

Day 5: Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu (B)

On day 5 we transfer from the hotel to Ollantaytambo Station to board the rail coach for a train ride to Machu Picchu. You will take a motor coach ascent to 'The Lost City of the Incas'.  A guided tour of the marvellous citadel visiting the Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circulal Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and the Burial Grounds ensues.  In the afternoon we return to Agua Calientes for a stay overnight.

 Day 6: Machu Picchu - Cuzco (B)

We strongly recommend an optional return to the site of Machu Picchu and wake up early to see the sunrise over Machu Picchu - it is an incomparable sight. For hiking enthusiasts, we suggest a walk up to the peak of the Huayna Picchu. 

We then take the afternoon train to Cuzco and transfer to the hotel.

Day 7: Cuzco - Puno (B/L)

We transfer from the hotel to the bus station and travel by coach to Puno, on the edge of Lake Titicaca.  Visits to archaeological sites en route and lunch are included.

Day 8: Puno – La Paz (B/L)

We continue travelling by bus, leaving Puno behind and cross the border into Bolivia.  Our first desitination is that of Copacabana where you visit the magnificent church and the Patron Virgin Mary of Bolivia.  We depart Copacabana by motor boat to visit the sacred island of the Incas-Sun Island before enjoying a picnic box lunch.  We visit some of the most important archaeological sites at Sun Island; Pilkocaina, the Fountain, and the Inca Staircase, before returning to Copacabana.

In the afternoon we continue by bus to the city of La Paz. On the way to La Paz, you will cross the strait of Tiquina, which is the narrowest part of the Titicaca Lake, dividing the small side (Wiñaymarka) and the big side (Chucuito). The drive goes though the high plateau reaching the first most important city of Bolivia, La Paz, in late afternoon.

Day 9: La Paz (B)

A morning tour of  La Paz and surroundings transports you to a mysterious past where on any corner, any street, is a hidden treasure where adventure begins…a living history which can not release the pre-Hispanic times with all their traditions and magic rites spread out in the streets: native, colonial and modern areas, Indian Market, the open-air Museum of Tiwanaku, Witch Doctor's Market & breathtaking panoramas framed by the majestic “Illimani”.  We also visit the mysterious Valley of the Moon on the outskirts of La Paz.  The afternoon is at your leisure.

Day 10: La Paz – Buenos Aires (B)

On day 10 we transfer to the airport for a connecting flight to Buenos Aires.  On arrival we transfer to the hotel for the night.

Day 11: Buenos Aires (B)

Get set for a morning tour visiting the most outstanding sites.  Departing from the Hotel to get to 9 de Julio Ave; the widest in the world; past the famous Colon Opera house and the Obelisk commemorating the first founding of the city in 1536, to get to Plaza de Mayo (May Square) and the buildings surrounding it. You'll experience Government House, Metropolitan Cathedral with the Mausoleum of General San Martin, Argentina’s greatest national hero and the Cabildo, the colonia Town Hall built in 1751. Then on to La Boca, a typical Italian district, where the first italian immigrants settled and ‘Caminito’ street. The tour continues to the Buenos Aires port area, past San Martín Square, towards the Palermo Chico residential district and Palermo Park with its jacaranda and palo borracho trees, which flower in the spring and late summer.  The ride continues to the Recoleta elegant district to visit Recoleta Cementery where the famous are laid to rest (including Eva Peron).  We return to the hotel along the stylish Alvear Ave.

Day 12: Buenos Aires (B)

A whole day at leisure to explore this paradise.

Day 13: Buenos Aires - Iguazu  (B)

We transfer to the airport for a connecting flight to Iguazu.  On arrival, we commence a tour into the Parque National del Iguazu.  You will be able to enjoy a walking tour of the falls. The view is magnificent, especially the one right on top of the Devil's Throat.  We then transfer across the border to your hotel located in the Brazilian town of Foz do Iguacu.

Day 14: Iguassu (B)

A morning tour to view the Brazilian side of the falls before spending the afternoon at your leisure.

Day 15: Iguassu - Rio de Janeiro (B)

We transfer to the airport for a flight to Rio de Janeiro.  On arrival, we transfer to the hotel located in Copacabana.

Day 16: Rio de Janeiro (B)

An action packed day! Our morning tour commences to one of the older parts of Rio called Cosme Velho, from where we take the train to the Corcovado Mountain with the gigantic statue of Christ the Redeemer (2.300ft above sea level).  A modern Swiss-made cogwheel rail climbs the mountain from its base at 15 meters almost to the summit at 710m. The trip up takes approximately 17 minutes, at a maximum speed of 15km/h.  The trip down takes 22min. at a speed of 12km/h. 

We return to the hotel. In the afternoon we visit the world famous Sugar Loaf Mountain in the middle of the Guanabara Bay, from where one of the most breathtaking views of the city of Rio can be seen (we take the two-stage car up to the top of the Mountain). The tour also offers a panoramic tour to downtown Rio, which is a great opportunity to see some of the historical sites of the city such as the Cathedral and the Municipal Theatre.

Day 17: Rio de Janeiro (B)

The second to last day is at leisure for optional sightseeing, shopping or simply relaxing at the beach.

Day 18: Rio de Janeiro (B)

We transfer to the airport and say good bye to Rio.
